Vindex® + Setra™: Understanding CTI's Complete Finishing System

A great finish is rarely the work of a single product. The qualities that matter most to the people building with a component are how well it resists damage, how cleanly it takes color, and how consistent it looks across a full run. This all comes from how the layers underneath and on top of a part work together. CTI's finishing approach is built on exactly that principle: two complementary coatings, one cohesive system.
The foundation is Vindex®, our proprietary protective finish and primer system. The customizable layer on top is Setra™, the custom paint program developed around each customer's product and brand. Vindex® provides the high-performance structural protection. Setra™ delivers the customized aesthetic appearance. Understanding how the two fit together is the key to understanding why CTI-finished components hold up and look right long after they leave the shop.
What Vindex® Does
Vindex® takes its name from the Latin words for “defender” and “protector”, and the chemistry lives up to it. It's an acrylic-based finish engineered to bond seamlessly to the substrate while holding an ultra-thin tolerance, within just 0.3mm, so it protects the part without burying its profile or detail.
That thin layer does a disproportionate amount of work. Vindex® delivers:
Enhanced adhesion and substrate protection that shields the wood or composite core from handling and moisture.
Increased elasticity 73% greater than CTI's previous finishes, so an impacted surface is more likely to dent than crack or chip.
Improved paint receptivity, conditioning the surface to better receive water-based coatings for stronger water and weather resistance.
Surface consistency, concealing imperfections like darker fibers, joints, and raised grain before any color goes on.
In other words, Vindex® turns a raw component into a stable, consistent, paint-ready surface. On its own, it's the reason CTI products resist the chipping and edge damage that drive up installed costs. As a foundation for color, it's what gives the finish on top something dependable to hold onto.

What Setra™ Adds
Applied over the Vindex® foundation, Setra™ is CTI's customizable paint program, built so customers can dial in the exact look and performance their product needs.
A Setra™ program can be tailored for:
Color: matched to your specific standards and paint codes using in-house spectrophotometer analysis.
Sheen: matte, satin, semi-gloss, or a custom level developed to spec.
Durability and anti-marring performance: for components that need to survive shipping, stocking, and installation.
Interior or exterior applications: formulated for where the product actually lives.
Because Setra™ sits on a surface that's already been engineered for adhesion and consistency, the color goes on cleaner and performs better than paint applied to generic finishes or an untreated part.

How the Layers Come Together
The finishing process is where the system earns its name. It starts with surface preparation: the substrate is cleaned of impurities and fully dried for optimal adhesion. Then Vindex® is applied in a thin, full-coverage pass, lightly sanded once dry, and sent through a curing oven that sets the hardened, moisture-resistant surface. The product is sanded and polished to remove any chalky residue, and the cycle repeats to build an even, flawless base. Every component begins
with two coats of the appropriate Vindex® finish before receiving Setra™. Interior components
are finished with Interior Vindex®, while exterior components receive Exterior Vindex®. For
exterior applications requiring additional protection, a protective topcoat can be added where
specified.
CTI inspects at every touchpoint along the way, correcting any detected imperfection before the part advances. By the time Setra™ goes on, the surface beneath it is already cured, consistent, and engineered to receive color so the finished component arrives smooth, uniform, and far closer to install-ready.
Why a Layered System Matters
Plenty of suppliers can put paint on a part. What's harder is delivering a finish that stays consistent across thousands of pieces and survives the trip from the millwork shop to the wall. The Vindex® + Setra™ system is built for exactly that. Together, the two coatings create a complete layered system that improves product durability, holds color consistency batch after batch, and delivers immediate retail readiness.
You'll see the system at work across CTI's catalog. Pre-painted SuperJambs®, finished and color-matched to a manufacturer's door standards. Composite exterior door frames and door frame jamb stock engineered to hold up in tough climates. Retail-ready mouldings, from baseboard and molding profiles to crown, pre-painted and matched to a national paint standard. In each case, the same two-layer logic applies: protect first with Vindex®, then finish to spec with Setra™.
One System, Built to Perform
Vindex® and Setra™ are most powerful together: structural protection underneath, customized color and sheen on top, and a controlled application process tying them into a single, dependable result. It's a finishing system designed not just to look good on day one, but to keep performing through shipping, handling, installation, and years of use.
